Gargano National Park: the treasures of Puglia

Gargano promontory, with its spectacular and amazing National Park is located in Puglia, in particular in the province of Foggia, and is a charming tourist destination that attracts many tourists every year. Covered with a dense and luxuriant vegetation, and kissed by a turquoise and clear sea along the shores, repeatedly awarded the Blue Flag, Gargano is the ideal holiday destination for those who wish to relax through an intense contact with nature, not disdaining the sea. Besides the sun lingers in this region of Southern Italy.

The Spur of Italy, as this tourist destination is often defined, offers many attractions, and a delightful gastronomic tradition. Coastal towns as Vieste and Peschici, just to name a few, are very suggestive, perched on the beautiful hills overlooking the sea, as many picturesque cribs. Some other magnificent towns in Gargano are Mattinata and Rodi Garganico. All these towns are rich in history, culture and spectacular sights, and when you find yourself walking through the streets of these places, you often have a clear feeling of being back in time.

The coasts of Gargano, are really wonderful. Long golden beaches dotted by rocks of a breathtaking beauty (an example for all is the candid Pizzomunno stack in Vieste), alternate to romantic and exciting caves and rugged coastline, and even beautiful coastal lakes (Lesina and Varano). The entire coastline, is also made even more beautiful by the succession of majestic Saracen sighting towers and picturesque trabucchi, old fishing equipment.

Nature lovers, must visit the beautiful Foresta Umbra. The Gargano area is also a destination of religious tourism. As a matter of fact, here there is one of the most famous pilgrimage destinations of Italy and of all the world, San Giovanni Rotondo. This is the town where St. Pio of Pietrelcina lived and died. You can also visit Monte Sant’Angelo, where there is the cave linked to the devotion to St. Michael the Archangel
