The Apennines: majestic Italian mountain range for your next holidays on the snow
The Apennines are a majestic and very extensive mountain range that runs through all of Italy forming a sort of spine. In fact, they are divided macroscopically in the Northern Apennines, Central Apennines and Southern Apennines. Along this amazing mountain range, delightful mountain villages, stunning views, wonderful ski resorts and spectacular natural landscapes follow one another. Any of these Apennine areas you’re going to choose for your next vacation in Italy, you will not be disappointed. The Northern Apennines, include the Ligurian Apennines, the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines. The Colle di Cadibona serves as a link with the other majestic Italian mountain range, the Alps. The Ligurian Apennines, often almost touch the sea with their huge and wonderful mountains. The Tuscan-Romagna Apennine is the cradle from which they are born the sources of two of the most famous rivers of Italy, i.e. the Arno and the Tiber in Rome (Tevere). In this area you can also admire the beautiful green valleys, among which they stand out the renowned Lunigiana, which extends between Liguria and Tuscany, the Mugello and the Garfagnana, in Tuscany. Even the central Apennines are rich in places full of charm. They are divided into Umbrian-Marches Apennines and Abruzzi Apennines. In Abruzzo, in particular, you can enjoy the highest mountain of all the Apennines: the Gran Sasso. Nearby you must not miss to visit the beautiful Natural Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga. The southern Apennines reach Aspromonte in Calabria. All along the Apennines there also are many ski resorts, where you can play winter sports and make enchanting excursions into the nature.
