Discover Pisa, one of the most visited towns of Italy

Pisa is a beautiful town in Tuscany,intimate and peaceful. The city is rich in history and as delightful works of art and spectacular monuments. Pisa is touched by the River Arno and the Ponte di Mezzo, majestic and elegant, crosses the river with a unique and beautiful arch that leads to its north side to the beautiful Piazza Garibaldi. Another charming town square is the Piazza dei Cavalieri, surrounded by elegant and refined palaces, among which the Palazzo dei Cavalieri and the impressive Palazzo dell’orologio (Clock Palace), the latter made by the skilful hand of Giorgio Vasari.

Carnival in Italy, Viareggio and Putignano

Typical of the Viareggio Carnival, in Tuscany (Toscana), are the allegorical chariots, which are wonderful more or less big chariots, on which tower over some enormous papier mâché caricatures of famous men of the world of politics, culture and show biz, whose defects are remarked with satire and irony. The tradition of this particular parade dates back to the second half of XIX century, and in particular to 1873, when some rich bourgeois of the city wanted to organize a parade of  lorries adorned with flowers on the occasion of Carnival. Some citizens, on this same occasion, decided to disguise themselves in order to protest against the too many taxes which they were forced to pay, taking as a target of their ironic jokes the chief of the tax collectors. From then on every year this parade allows to make chariots that perfectly represent the thought and the discontent of many people.
