Tuscany is a land full of traditions, splendid cities of art, delicious green hills adorned by picturesque farmsteads and a food and wine tradition that has made it famous throughout the world. There is not a better period to visit Tuscany. It is indeed fascinating and beautiful throughout the year. In winter, however, and especially during the holiday season, this land has a really particular charm.
The warm colours of nature, induce to make some wonderful walks and delightful excursions. In the New Year holiday period, all the cities and the typical villages, enlighten and are scene of many events whose charm is magic. Almost everywhere, in fact, are held the typical Christmas markets. Among the stalls you can look around without ever getting tired, and you can taste delicacies and sweets of all kinds; you can also buy typical handicrafts of the region.
The traditional Heidelberg Christmas market in Piazza Santa Croce, is one of the most famous in the Tuscan capital. Cities of art like Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Siena, will be wonderful to visit with their amazing old town centres dressed up in holiday clothes. You can take the chance to visit the famous monuments and the spectacular town squares of this enchanting cities. The Piazza del Palio di Siena, the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral with the magnificent Giotto Bell Tower, the leaning Tower of Pisa, are just some of the famous monuments that you can admire.
In many of the Churches of Tuscany, they will be held Christmas concerts and you will be able to admire wonderful cribs. Even a simple weekend will be good to enjoy at least a small taste of the atmosphere that Christmas magic gives to this delicious Italian region. We also recommend eating a lunch in one of the many restaurants in Tuscany, to delight your palate with authentic cuisine and fine wines.
